“Come Back, Little Song!”
Under this title the All-Union publishing house “Sovetsky Kompozitor” has issued a new collection of songs by Gorky composers for younger children (compiled by A. Gorchakova). It includes individual songs by A. Kasyanov, B. Blagovidov, V. Artemyev and S. Strazov, as well as two Russian folk songs arranged by A. Gorchakova and, finally, two cycles. B. S. Getselev’s cycle “We Sing and Play”, to poems by S. Marshak (“A Quiet Tale”, “Humpty Dumpty”, “Birds in the Pie”), is interesting in that the little singers can accompany the performance themselves by playing various, mainly percussion, instruments. It has already been heard several times in concerts.
The other cycle, G. Komrakov’s “Merry Folk Songs” (13 little song-scenes to words by S. Marshak from the children’s poetry of different countries and peoples), has also already stood the test of the concert stage.
Let us hope that the publication of this collection will make the works of Gorky composers for children known and loved in other cities as well.
