At the Festival in Moldavia

To mark the first anniversary of the USSR Constitution, Days of Soviet Music were held in Moldavia. Composers, performers and creative collectives came from every Union republic.

The most representative and numerous delegation was that of the RSFSR, which included a group from Gorky: Honoured Art Worker of the Yakut ASSR, composer G. Komrakov, and the boys’ choir chapel with its artistic director, Honoured Art Worker of the RSFSR L. Sivukhin.

The Chapel gave several solo concerts in the cities of Chișinău, Bălți and Bender, took part in large joint programmes and creative meetings with composers and with children’s choirs, and performed at schools and state farms. The success of our young singers was so great that listeners greeted them with a standing ovation and showered the boys with flowers.

G. Komrakov was in one of eight groups, together with the Leningrad composer S. Slonimsky and musicians from Kyrgyzstan. They met with collective farmers of the Criuleni district, workers of the “Bucuria” confectionery factory, students of the teacher-training institute in Bălți, senior pupils in the Frunze district of Chișinău, and pupils of the state-farm technical school in the Dondușeni district.

The songs and vocal cycle “Elegy” by G. Komrakov were performed with the participation of A. Sokolovsky, an artist of the Bolshoi Theatre, accompanied by the composer.
