The Little Musicians' Holiday
For the third time the regional culture department organises a singing pioneer camp for young residents of Gorky who are active participants in the city’s musical life. This year it is located in a picturesque place on the Linda River, in the village of Tarasikha.
The aim of organising such a camp is to help the children, during their holiday, to prepare seriously for International Music Day on 1 October and for other important performances during the year.
This experience is enriched every year. This season more than 300 people are resting and studying, among them old-timers — the boys’ choir chapel and the choirs of the V. P. Chkalov Palace of Pioneers and of the House of Children’s Artistic Education — and newcomers — representatives of various music schools of the city who formed a symphony orchestra.
The children work every day: they learn and rehearse a concert programme containing much music by classical and Soviet composers. The classes are led by the choirmasters V. A. Popov and Honoured Art Worker of the RSFSR L. K. Sivukhin, and by the orchestra leader O. I. Velinsky.
In their free time the children eagerly take part in interesting games, hikes and competitions. Experienced pioneer leaders and counsellors help them in this.
